COVID-19 News

Omicron-specific Bivalent COVID-19 Vaccination

As you may know, as of September 2022, the previous COVID-19 vaccines were replaced with bivalent COVID-19 vaccines which target the BA.4/BA.5 Omicron variants in addition to the original strain. There is a shortage of the Moderna vaccine, but Pfizer is still available.

If you have not yet received any boosters, I’d recommend getting this one now. Otherwise, it is recommended to wait at least 2 months since your last booster; many vaccine experts say it is even more effective to wait 4 months. Additionally, the CDC recommends waiting 3 months after having a COVID-19 infection to get the booster. Additional boosters are particularly recommended for folks who fall in the higher risk category.

Of note: the older monovalent booster will no longer be available for those 12 years of age and older.
